On Wednesday, December 8th, 2021, Bradan Press was honoured to present a copy of Anna Ruadh, our Scottish Gaelic translation of Anne of Green Gables, to Green Gables Heritage Place in Prince Edward Island.

We’re grateful to Anna Ruadh illustrator Etta Moffatt and Lewis MacKinnon of Oifis Iomairtean na Gàidhlig / Office of Gaelic Affairs for participating with us. We missed our translator Mòrag Anna MacNeil—tha sinn a’ dèanamh fiughar ris an latha far am bi thu ann còmhla ruinn aig Stuaghan Uaine, a Mhòrag Anna!

Prince Edward Island Poet laureate and Indigenous Knowledge Keeper Julie Pellissier-Lush (at left in the photo) opened the ceremony with a prayer and song for strong women. Barbara MacDonald (second from left) accepted the Anna Ruadh book on behalf of Parks Canada.

Our profound thanks to the Parks Canada staff of Green Gables Heritage Place for recognizing the cultural significance of this translation, and organizing and hosting this beautiful and meaningful ceremony.

Anna Ruadh joins translations of Anne of Green Gables into Albanian, Bulgarian, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, French, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Sinhala, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish and Ukranian. Many of these translations are displayed on a wall at Green Gables.
