Last Chance for US Customers to Order Tariff-free in 2025
The following non-book products, and our new Gaelic board book (see below) can be ordered by our US customers tariff-free, but only until Thursday, October 30, 2025 at midnight in your local time zone:
- Gaelic Christmas Cards from Taigh Sgoile na Drochaide: We’re reopening orders for the Gaelic Christmas cards this only! 50% of proceeds go to support the Gaelic immersion school in Mabou, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, which is the only Gaelic-medium school in North America.
- Gaelic Maps of Scotland & Ireland: These maps of the Gaelic world, of St. Columba’s Land, are USD $8. As of today we have 20 left and when they’re gone, they’re gone forever!
- Nova Scotia Gaelic Flags: These flags are manufactured in China – we buy them from a supplier who has them manufactured there. So the Nova Scotia Gaelic flags are still included in the tariffed products, as you probably already know.
After our US tariff-free orders close on October 30, these items will be temporarily removed from the Bradan Press US Dollar shop on October 31st. They will reappear on November 1st, but with a tariff of 35% automatically added to orders that contain one or more of these items.
Tariff-free USA orders placed by midnight Thursday, October 30, will be shipped from Maine to US addresses within a few days. This is your LAST CHANCE to order these items tariff-free in 2025. If you need to shop for the holidays, this is the ONLY week to do it. We can’t even guarantee that we’ll be able to do this in 2026, as it takes a lot of work and prospects for the ongoing trade war are highly uncertain.
New Gaelic Board Book Will Be Tariffed after Oct. 30
Most of our books can still ship tariff-free to the USA, but there is one exception: our brand-new Gaelic board book An Stàball [The Stable], because it was not printed in North America:
An Stàball is the first-ever original Gaelic board book, and a transatlantic collaboration between Scotland and Canada. Author Anne Ramsay from the Isle of Lewis developed and tested the story with her pupils at Sgoil-Àraich Lacasdail near Stornoway. Award-winning illustrator Kate Phillips of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia imbued the farmyard animals and their interactions with personality and drama. Each 2-page spread of this board book has a stable door flap to lift. Perfect for ages 0–5 and as a baby gift!
To order An Stàball shipped to a US address tariff-free, be sure to place your order in our US Dollar online shop by October 30, 2025 at midnight in your time zone. Please note that the board book of An Stàball is not available through Amazon in the USA, only from Bradan Press.
Shipping Rates Increasing November 1, 2025 for US Shipments
Due to the sudden, extensive new US requirements for customs documentation, our shipping rates to the USA will be increasing by about $5 per shipment next week even for tariff-free books. This is because our cross-border shipping service has added new customs brokerage and processing fees even for tariff-free orders to clear. We also spent several hours adding required HST codes and manufacturing information to every shipment.
Prior to August 29, 2025, all of our shipments under USD $800 in value were tariff-free to the USA. This was called the de minimis exemption and it was put in place because it was determined that the labour to collect tariffs on low-value packages actually cost more than was collected in tariffs on those packages. There had been a form of de minimis exemption in place in the USA for many decades. Unfortunately in July 2025 a US executive order eliminated it. Now, the applicable tariffs are due on all parcels of any value.
