Emily McEwan has been involved with Scottish Gaelic language and culture for 30 years. Her academic writing is published as Emily McEwan-Fujita. She edits Gaelic books and letters graphic novels as Eimilidh NicEòghainn. She earned a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Chicago and formerly taught linguistic and cultural anthropology at Washington University in St. Louis, Loyola University Chicago, University of Pittsburgh, and Saint Mary’s University. A former editor of the Small Languages and Small Language Communities section of the International Journal of the Sociology of Language, Dr. McEwan-Fujita now lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
